The Come Ons

From Motown soul to nitty gritty garage rock, the Come Ons embody the Detroit sound. The band generates universal appeal with songwriting (shared by all three members) that is full of musical hooks keeping your ears wanting more. The band has a sizable repertoire of solid pop tunes with influences of traditional blues, soul and garage rock. However, it’s not just the writing, the Come Ons have the musical chops to play with the best of them. One of Detroit’s most talented vocalists, Deanne Iovan has a wonderful ability to shape the color of the band’s sound and provide a very musical melodic contour (take a listen to “Strangelove”). Adding to the band’s signature sound is their use of the Hammond organ. In this era when all to few rock bands dare to stray from the traditional lineup (rock… the so-called ‘rebellious’ music), the Come Ons utilize the organ as a key element in their sound. It gives them a unique texture by adding depth, momentum and harmony. Check out “Sunday Drive” and you’ll have to agree that it makes for a pretty sweet sound.

Recorded by Jim Diamond at his famous Ghetto Recorders, Hip Check! is one of the most well-produced albums to come out of the recent Detroit scene.
