The Paybacks Record Release Party Tonight

Proving they’re nothing if not persistent, The Paybacks are releasing a new full-length album. Though I’m a huge Paybacks fan, I must admit that I was anticipating more of the same when I popped it in. With Love, Not Reason, the Paybacks do much more than that, however. In their third full-length, the Paybacks have really crafted a record that’s solid and engaging from start to finish, and it’s their best effort to date. Wendy Case has by no means gone soft, but this record does hold some unusually tender moments. We already know she’s got the rough and tough down, but surprisingly, she pulls off these softer side moments better than anyone. The production is great, the mix is good and the diversity of instrumentation is much welcomed in a guitar/bass/drums dominated scene. To all those labels who passed around the time the Paybacks were gracing glossy magazines and making national tv appearances, well, you missed out on a damn good record.
