THE HARD LESSONS

Help Support Senor Garo

Congrats on surviving the Blowout, Detroiters! Hopefully everyone remembered Daylight Saving Time last night and you all made it to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on time for more cold beers and good times today. Hopefully El Mateo Grande will have it in him to get a few quick write ups to MCR early this week, and the MCR Flickr account will most certainly be updated soon with photos from Friday and Saturday night’s festivities.

In other news, (WORK RELATED PLUG!), did MCR readers know that the IRS owes U.S. taxpayers $20 billion dollars due to an illegally collected ‘War Tax’ that’s been collected on telephone service since 1898? This money can be collected on your 2006 tax refund, but this is a one-time opportunity that’s only available on 2006 refunds. Please note that any of this illegally collected money that isn’t claimed on refunds will be returned to the general treasury, and that would be a crying shame.

The website Refunds for Good offers information on how exactly both individuals and business can go about claiming their refunds, as well as an opportunity to donate the unexpected windfall in part or in whole to any of three worthwhile non-profit organizations — one of which is my employer, the PeaceJam Foundation. Even if you don’t plan on donating, please head over to the Refunds for Good website to find out how to get money potentially owed to you.
