Whoa. Don’t know exactly what to say about this yet, but Detour is going to putting on a new music festival right around the time the Blowout usually is. Is the Blowout over with? Is Detour trying to take over the world? I know one thing though, if both events take place in March I will probably die.Anyways here is the press release.
Detroit Rock City Music Festival: March 5-8, 2008
DETROIT — Detour presents ROCK CITY, the local music festival that will take over the Majestic Theatre Center March 5, 6, 7 and 8, 2008. For six months now Detour has downloaded daily music, film, and pop culture content into the curious brains of readers all over the world, including coverage of the local bands we know better than anyone. We’re a Web site, after all, and that platform comes with worldwide pull. But it doesn’t mean we can’t love what’s happening right under our noses, and ROCK CITY is our way of tuning in and turning on readers and fans to what we’ve always known: Detroit music owns.
ROCK CITY will take place over four nights at the Magic Stick, Majestic Theater, and Garden Bowl, echoing the music and mayhem of Detour’s now-infamous September ‘07 launch party. Over 60 local acts are scheduled to perform, pushing the boundaries of both genre and gender to include rock and pop, hip-hop, noise music, metal, and more. The official lineup will be announced in December. Until then, visit Detour daily for festival updates and our usual round of record and film reviews, pop culture esoterica, free MP3s, and original video content.
