Daniel Johnston Invades Detroit

Legendary folk singer Daniel Johnston took over the Magic Stick last night. The sold out performance was inspiring to say the least and at times even gave me goose bumps. It was amazing to see his standards “Speedy Motorcycle” and “Walking The Cow” with a full band. Several from the local scene were on hand including Ryan Allen from Thunder Birds Are Now! and Friendly Foes, both of which are playing this year’s Hamtramck Blowout.

Detroit’s Rachael Davies played an inviting opening set for Daniel Johnston, where she confessed a secret dream of using her lactating nipple to fight off an aggressive heckler. Congrats to Rachel and her new baby. Check out Rachael Davis for free this weekend at the Motown Winter Blast on Saturday at 5:00PM over at the Compuware Building downtown.
