Jack Will Be Jack

Jack White’s recent comments on collaborating with Brendan Benson.

What really drove me to him was he was the only other musician in Detroit who really cared about the craft of songwriting. – Jack White

Ouch! I guess Collins, Miller, Harlow, Speck and company don’t care about the craft of songwriting? You can read the whole Mercury News article with Jack White here.

Hell, White was the king of the garage rock revival during that time; however, Speck is more power pop on par with Benson.

I feel the scene now is more focused on several different kinds of rock/pop and songwriting approaches and a lot of that has to do with what came after 2003 like TAN!, Great Lakes Myth Society and Silent Years

Oh yeah let me clarify. Every songwriter you listed writes garage rock except Mr. Miller. Let's be honest here, writing garage rock music does not take a great deal of songwriting talent and this applies to Jack's early music and some of his new music as well. It doesn't make it bad by any means, it's my favorite kind of music, but as far as songwriting craft goes it's pretty low there on the totem pole. So I understand what he's saying.

My hometown took a crap over and over on me.

I think he meant Beatlesesque melodic songwriting, not garage rock stuff.
  • Leyland "Lee" DeVito
I think Brendan writes good pop melodies, but his lyrics can be kind of silly.

Before he lied in the press to keep his smarts hidden, but now his evasive answers just make him appear like he's lost it and that he's fooling himself.

it must me fun to take a crap over and over on your hometown

I think Jack White has the worst case of verbal diarrhea I've ever seen. He just says whatever the hell he wants to without thinking it all the way through. What a first rate a-hole.

jw just keeps getting more and more nauseating. plus his music is showing signs of suffering, ie the new raconteurs album. i guess that's just the craft of shitty songwriting. (better post!)
