That fact that new wave revivalists Novada have been around for over five years, sporting a polished sound and strong fan base to boot, it’s very surprising to find them opening up tonight at one of the Blowout’s smaller, say I say more “charming” venues (Kelly’s Bar) at the oh so early time slot of 9:20. But don’t let this scheduling fail on the part of MT distract you if you like fist pump “arena rock” or the kind of songs that you want to sing along to with the windows rolled down on a balmy spring day (yes that’s right they were in a Ford Sync commercial.) Get your ass out early tonight to see this original take on The Cars meets Echo & the Bunnymen love-affair that I am so damn fond of (check out the their cover of the Bunnymen’s perennially 1987 hit “Lip’s Like Sugar,”).
Now if you like what you hear with Novada, you can pretty much camp out at Kelly’s Bar all night long since it’s going to be one hell of a kick-ass New Wave and Rock N Roll Marathon with Lies Unknown, Cougar The Tiger and headliners Los Vikings Del Muerto rounding out the showcase (which features local blues, rock legend in the works Elliott Mose of Universal Temple of Dvine Power fame on lead axe.) Top-to-bottom this may be the best billing of the whole damn Blowout!
