NYE 194x300 The Lager House New Year Giveaway Frenzy detroit concerts Thursday, December 31
NEW YEAR’S EVE w/The Muggs, The Beggars, The Wrong Numbers, Bixy Lutz 9pm – 4am $8
Celebrate the dawning of a New Year in the rockingest fashion! After their stint on Fox’s reality show, “The Next Great American Band” a couple years ago, local blues rock trio The Muggs gained new fans all over the nation to become one of the biggest bands in Detroit. But they are far more than just former reality TV stars– The Muggs are truly talented musicians and some of the nicest folks in Detroit rock. They’ve received many accolades, including “Best Rock Band of the Year 2007″ from radio station RIFF2. Featuring Danny Methric, Tony DeNardo and Matt Rost, The Muggs bring a high energy and highly talented musical lineup to the stage. This is sure to be a fun, perfect start to 2010! The Beggars are Detroit’s champions of party rock n’ roll! With on (and off) stage antics that will move ANY crowd, the Beggars deliver on every level! Prepare to be entertained! The band recently received 3 awards from Riff2 HD radio including Best Party Band and Best Dance Moves (for frontman Steven Davis) Their latest release ‘Party to the People’ was also nominated for Album of the Year at the 2007 Hamtramck Music Awards. The Wrong Numbers combine that old Detroity soul sound with slightly more modern influences. If you liked The Elevations, you’ll enjoy this group. Deeply soulful singing is accompanied by a steady and evident beat. Kicking the evening off will be Bixy Lutz, a local trio with stripped down garagey blues. Complimentary champagne toast at midnight! Ring in 2010 at PJ’s Lager House!

Friday, January 1 – The Readies w/Oxford Cotton, The Potions
10pm $6
Readies are the project of guitarist Danny Kroha (The Gories, Demolition Dollrods), bassist Zach Weedon (Dirtbombs) and drummer Ben Luckett. This band knows how to rock a crowd and we can guarantee you will have a good time seeing them! Kroha is fresh off a year of rock’n'roll stardom with The Gories summertime reunion and European tour, so you know he’ll be in top form. Cincinnati’s Oxford Cotton is making their first Detroit appearance as a band, but these musicians are no strangers to the D. Headed by The Greenhornes’ Craig Fox, Pearlene’s Andy Jody and The Heartless Bastards’ Mike Lamping, the members of Oxford Cotton have rocked the stages of Detroit many times over. Come check out their new project on the first day of a brand new year! Nice, fresh starts for everyone. The Potions are surely one of the more bizarre bands in town– and I mean that in a good way. The lead singer is a slight maniac and imposing figure in a seersucker suit, twirling cane and wide and wild eyes. A good show from this chap, always and indeed!

BOOGNYD2010 194x300 The Lager House New Year Giveaway Frenzy detroit concerts Saturday, January 2 – Easy Action w/Boogaloosa Prayer, Darkred 10pm $6
Easy Action is a Detroit-based four-piece featuring punk rock hero John Brannon (formerly of The Laughing Hyenas). They’re loud, fun and know exactly what the hell they’re doing. These hearty rock’n'roll veterans aren’t messing around, and are appearing off of a recent strong showing at The Crofoot in Pontiac opening for The Jesus Lizard. Boogaloosa Prayer was formed from the ashes of infamous Maumee rock’n'roll legends Henry and June whose rhythm section went on to form the world famous Soledad Brothers. Boogaloosa Prayer consists of blues master Dooley Wilson on slide guitar and vocals, Jimmy Danger on rhythm guitar and harp, and Todd Swalla of Necros/Laughing Hyenas fame on drums. Swalla now lives in northern California and only makes it back once a year…. blink and you’ll miss them again! You may remember Boogaloosa Prayer as the show-stopping opening band from the Soledad Brothers’ last hurrah at the Magic Stick back in 2006. DarkRed is made up of two of the coolest dudes in Detroit: Rob Smith and Chris Turner. Darkred is a 4-track solo project featuring the guitar player from PAIK. They know noise and they know talent in every genre. Turner has a lot of good jokes so make sure you ask to hear one or eight.
