In Detroit, it is tough to find respect as a pop-rock singer/songwriter. In fact, you have to be darn good to pull it off. Crashing Detroit's gritty garage rock scene with catchy and upbeat pop tunes, Brendan Benson has won the Motor City's heart. And if he can do it here, he can do it anywhere. His critical acclaim and large fanbase throughout the world testifies to this.
Critics around the world have praised Benson and even made such lofty comparisons as David Bowie and Elliot Smith.

The Wellfed Boys are high school friends and a more than qualified group of musicians to support Benson's heralded songwriting. The crew reforms in a slightly different configuration to create their other band, Mood Elevator

Brendan Benson & the Wellfed Boys made their full-length debut in 1996 with the highly acclaimed release One Mississippi on Virgin Records.  Following the success of the album, Benson built a studio in his Detroit home and recorded a second full-length, Lapalco, for the Brooklyn-based Star Time label.

Benson's notoriety was given a boost after being championed by fellow Detroiter Jack WhiteWhite once told LA Weekly "[Brendan]'s an extremely talented songwriter... I envy his melodies."  Benson also gained a following touring with such acts as the Flaming Lips, Beth Orton, Ben Kweller and the White Stripes
