thursday
the band: THE FAGS
the bar:  Holbrook Cafe @ 12:45
the advocate: Mr. Gary, Big Matt, Ryan, Christopher
the lowdown:  Big Matt: Power pop at it's finest.  Catchy melodies combined with great playing always makes The Fags a can't miss - and if you're lucky, Jimmy will pour beer all over his drumkit.  Catch old favs and bunch of new tunes.  Mr. Gary: DUDE.  John Speck.  Jimmy Paluzzi.  Tim Patalan.  Flying V guitars.  Beer drums.  Rock music.  Nothing more needs to be said.  Ryan: if you wanna be sure to see one band that won't disappoint ya, these are your folks!

the band: TEN WORDS FOR SNOW
the bar:  The Locker Room @ 11:30
the advocate: Big Matt, Mr. Gary
the lowdown: Big Matt: Indie-ish pop-rock….Actually I just picked them because they have a great name.  Mr. Gary: Ten Words for Snow doles out some good rock songs (think early 90’s radio rock that wasn’t grunge).  Mr. Gary suggests you stick around for NEW GRENADA as well (12:45): New Grenada dispenses silly, fun and occasionally unusual garage pop.

the band: AMERICAN MARS
the bar:  Small's @ 11:30
the advocate: Big Matt
the lowdown:  When Dave Feeny isn’t traveling the world with Blanche, you can catch him playing pedal steel with this Americana roots rock band. They don’t play that often so catch them while you can.
porchesleeperthe band: PORCHSLEEPER
the bar:  Attic Bar @ 9:00
the advocate: Big Matt, Mr. Gary
the lowdown: Mr. Gary: Porchsleeper = schizophrenic alt-country-rock that’s tastier than a big bowl of Cap’n Crunch.  This should be one of the sleeper sets of the Blowout, and since it’s early, there’s no reason that a ton of folks shouldn’t be there rocking out.  Big Matt: Playing a brand of revved up, catchy alt-country and with songs about broken hearts, drinking and more drinking, Porchsleeper will be great way to start off Friday night.
the band: JETTISON RED

the band: SHIPWRECKED, LEAVING ROUGE
the bar:  Small's @ 12:45
the advocate: Mr. Gary
the lowdown: Shipwrecked (featuring members of Charlevoix and the late, great Small Brown Bike) will mystify with a dreamy haze, while the Leaving Rouge will just light the room up like a lantern through intense emotional output alone.

the band: THE SKEEMIN' NOGOODS, BACK IN SPADES
the bar:  Holbrook Cafe @ 11:30 (Skeeming Nogoods), 12:34 (Back in Spades)
the advocate: Ryan, Big Matt, Mr. Gary
the lowdown: Ryan:  Punk rock man, the Skeemin' Nogoods will blow your mind.  Back in Spades is the best new band around... and Jackson Smith has some really hip pairs of pants.  Big Matt: Formally called The Lucky Stiffs, The Skeemin' Nogoods rock hard with their super charged punk flavored rock n roll. Plus, John Speck plays some killer guitar solos, and that should be reason enough for anyone to go.  Mr. Gary: Reasons to go?  1) Back in Spades is only the most DISGUSTINGLY good rock band in the area now, courtesy of catchy rock songs with a 60’s edge and two of the most skilled lead guitarists currently breathing in Detroit. 2) John Speck is great, and he’s in the Skeemin’ No Goods, and he sings and plays the living bejeezus out of the guitar in this band.    photo: christopher chouinard
the band: THE MUGGS
the bar:  Polish Sea League @ 11:30
the advocate: Mr. Gary, Ryan, Jacquie
the lowdown: Big Matt once said that seeing the Muggs was like seeing both Led Zeppelin and Blind Faith playing together as the same band at one time, only as a three-some.  That may sound a bit convoluted, but it’s a perfect descriptor.    photo: christopher chouinard
the band: AUDRA KUBAT
the bar:  Small's @ 10:00
the advocate: Big Matt
the lowdown: This lovely songstress plays a brand of heartfelt folk that is reminiscent of Nick Drake and Join Mitchell.
the band: THE KINGSNAKES, THE LANTERNJACK
the bar:  New Dodge @ 10:15 (Kingsnakes), 11:30 (Lanternjack)
