mcr profile
In the winter of 2002, Tom Potter began the Detroit City Council
as a solo project with some help from fellow Dirtbomb
Jim Diamond. A number of Detroit's best were called into jam
sessions
with the Council including Danny Dollrod,
Ewolf (Dirtbombs), Deanne Iovan (Come
Ons), Matt O'Brien, Danny Maister and Mike Walker (Bogue).
Expanding the Council
from
a solo act, Potter added the Bogue guitarists Mike Walker and
Danny
Maister, pulled in Matt O'Brien on bass and Jason "The Nougat"
Bonaquist
on drums. They played their first
gigs as the opening act on the Electric Six
U.K. tour.
The Council received a warm U.K. reception and drew the
interest
of the Acid Jazz label who released a single, Mary's Little Lamb,
in May, 2003. A second single, Party Planet Rising followed and
featured the DCC anthem "Party Planet Rising", the funk party
soundscape "Ass Struggle" and a unique acoustic version of Electric
Six's "Gay Bar" which was recorded live at the BBC. With a heavy
soul influence, the Council produces
jammin'
danceable funk that just won't allow the audience to stand still.
