Detroit's CorktownIn the 1800s, Corktown was settled by Irish immigrants from the County of Cork. It has since become the oldest ethic neighborhood in Detroit. Many of the homes in the area reflect early styles (Federal, Queen Anne and Irish cottage-style), and some date back to 1830. In 1901, the Detroit Tiger’s officially entered the American League, and the team "set up shop" in Corktown.

Lagar House DetroitSince the Tiger’s have moved to Comerica Park, the area has experienced some setbacks. However, with the increasing popularity of the Detroit music scene, and the recent addition of the renowned Slows Bar BQ restaurant and the popular Corktown Tavern, Corktown is again seeing renewal. After the 2001 closing of the Gold Dollar in the Cass Corridor, much of Detroit rock scene shifted to the Lager House and the and it’s well known local showcases, Corktown is hoppin’ almost every evening.
