Magic Stick
Location:4120 Woodward Avenue
Detroit, MI
Since 1987 The Magic Stick, located in the same complex as the historic Majestic Theatre, has become one of the most celebrated live act venues in Detroit. It has hosted many well known (Sleater Kinney) and hometown rockers (White Stripes, Dirtbombs, Silent Years, The Muggs) acts over the years. The Stick has become a constant candidate for national and local bands that have a garage and indie rock flare. Several strategically placed tables offer a relaxed concert viewing experience, but you need to arrive early to get a prime location. The bar, located at the back of the joint, offers some comfy and intimate seating for those who want to lounge during a show. Many bar flies have even been served a drink by Ko Shih (Dirtbombs) at this bar. For nights when there is no rockin’ musical performance, you can enjoy a game of pool at one of the ten tables located to the left of the stage. Or, if you want to experience the joy of a severely underrated sport, you can knock down some pins at the Garden Bowl (which also hosts a well stocked bar), located on the main level of the Majestic.
