located in the Metro Detroit suburb of Berkley, the Berkley Front is almost two separate joints – downstairs, the local watering hole – upstairs, the local live music venue. The happy hour crowd tends to skew a bit older, but when the sun goes down, the young’ins move in. A venerable beer shrine, the Berkley Front is decorated with a hodge-podge of objects. The downstairs décor consists of flags, beer posters, mirrors, beer posters, signs…did I mention beer paraphernalia?? If you are in the mood for something to eat, you can find some tasty treats here. You can also enjoy local microbrews from Atwater and the Motor City Brewing Company. The furnishings upstairs are a bit different. A little darker and more distinctive, the upper portion has the feel of a 50’s lounge – L-shaped bar, chrome and Formica tables and a big leather couch. An eclectic mix of ‘radio’ music fills the ears of downstairs patrons, while the upstairs hosts live weekend acts of a local variety – everything from folk-rock to alternative.
