Mazinga plays a brash form of “cosmic garage punk rock” that centers around fantasy comic book sub culture. Formed in 1995, the Mazinga (the name plays homage to Japanese a cartoon robot) have played played all over North America. In 2001, original Mazinga drummer Donny Blum left the band to join the Detroit-based Von Bondies. After taking a short three year hiatus, Mazinga resurfacing again in 20006 and eventually teamed up longtime with longtime Powertrane drummer Alex King. Guitarist Chris Taylor plays bass in Powertrane as well.

Mazina’s bass player “Big” Tony O’Farrell is also an accomplished Ann Arbor based horror comic book artist know as Rubber Wolf.
