Near East Side

Located just east of Downtown Detroit and south of Hamtramck, the Near East Side of Detroit can be found between I-94, 1-75 and the Detroit East Riverfront. The Near East Side is home to much of Detroit’s heritage as well of the future potential the city has as a thriving art and green community.

Eastern Market: Detroit’s premier year round farmer’s located over a massive 43-acre area.

Faygo Beverage Factory: incorporated in 1097 by Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works, Faygo manufactures “world famous” low-cost soda pop drinks that are recognizable by their bright colors and unique flavors.

Heidelberg Project: created by artist Tyree Guyton in 1986 b, world renowned “outdoor community art environment” was initially made of garbage Guyton found throughout the near by neighborhood.

Elmwood Cemetery: the oldest continuously operating, non-denominational cemetery in Michigan is home ot some of Detroit’s most historic former residents.

Polish Yacht Club: 100 year old, small working class bar with great food in what remains of Detroit’s Poletown.

Dequindre Cut Greenway the one mile bike bath that connects Eastern Market to the Detroit Riverwalk.
