Powertrane comes straight out of a long tradition of edgy, Detroit rock n’ roll. Made up of Detroit rock legends along side driving, young talent, Powertrane embodies the best of the gritty Motor City sound.
The legendary rocker Scott Morgan formed Powertrane in 2001. Morgan’s original claim to fame was the 60’s band The Rationals. In the next decade, he went on to rock with Fred “Sonic” Smith (MC5) in the Sonic’s Rendezvous Band. The 80’s found Morgan as a bandmate of Scott Asheton (the Stooges) in Scots Pirates and finally, he joined The Hydromatics. Guitarist Robert Gillespie is another veteran of the Detroit rock scene and was a part of the Rob Tyner Band and formed The Torpedos with Johnny Angelos. In the 80’s, Gillespie joined up with Mitch Ryder’s Detroit Wheels and has continued to work with Ryder up to the present. He also formed the Motor City Rockers – which included Jimmy Marinos of the Romantics. In Powertrane, Morgan and Gillespie are joined by bassist Chris Taylor (The Avatars, Mazinga) and drummer Alex King (Mazinga).
