mcr profile
Benjamin Swank (Ben Smith) and Johnny Walker (Johnny Wirick) first
teamed up in the mid- 1990's in their hometown of Maumee, Ohio (near
Toledo), where they had been playing with a couple of blues bands.
After coming north to Detroit for a couple gigs, the duo was
approached by Italy Records owner Dave
Buick. They released a couple of singles on Italy - the second
one produced by Jack White. The
Brothers
forged a relationship with White and he
also engineered their full-length debut on Estrus
in 2000 (Meg's on percussion on this
one). One of the most recognizable features of the album is Johhny's
characterization of a southern preacher spreading the good Word.
They followed up
with a second release on Estrus in 2002.
The
blues influence is still very prevalent, but this album has a much
heavier
60's and 70's Brit-rock influence. In 2003, the Soledad Brothers
released their third studio album, Voice
of Treason, on the European Loog Records. --Ryan
