Led by Jason Stollsteimer’s bluesy, careening vocals, The Von Bondies have quickly rose to the top of the Detroit rock scene. As with most Detroit bands, their sound is a mix of heavy blues influence and guitar-driven punk. Lack of Communication, their first full-length album, was recorded in 2001 on the Sympathy for the Recording Industry label. They laid down the album at Detroit’s famous Ghetto Recorders with production guidance from Jack White and the masterful engineering of Jim Diamond (Ghetto Recorders). In 2001, the Von Bondies embarked on a European tour as the opening act for the White Stripes, which helped them further establish a prominent position in the Detroit rock scene. Wherever they’ve ventured in the last few years, the Von Bondies have generated a huge buzz. Enthusiastic crowds throughout the UK and in New York City have attracted the close eye of major label execs. NME, the British music mag, tagged Marcie as the 7th coolest person in rock & roll for the year 2002 (Jack White was No. 1).
The Von Bondies inked a major label deal with Sire Records (Warner Brothers) and released a much cleaner & more polished persona with 2004’s Pawn Shoppe Heart, under the production of producer Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads). Then after five years of extensive touring, leaving Sire Records, and several lineup changes, in 2009, The Von Bondies hit back with their third full length album Love Hate & Then There’s You to huge critical and fan success.
